Steve’s Story

Hey, I’m Steve - explorer, fitness enthusiast, and founder of Travel 4 Good.

I’m from Australia, married to my fellow adventurer Lisa, and together we’ve raised four amazing daughters. I’ve been travelling since I was 22 years old and haven’t stopped! I introduced backpacking to Lisa, and the day after our wedding - 26 years ago we set off on an 8-week backpacking honeymoon through Southeast Asia. That trip set the tone for a life built on shared adventure.

From the very beginning, we dreamt of raising our daughters to know the world - not through news cycles or social media, but by being there. We wanted them to experience different places and people, to travel slowly and immerse themselves in diverse cultures and ways of life. We took plenty of family adventures through Southeast Asia when they were young - backpacks in tow and hearts wide open.

In 2016, when the girls were 11, 12, 14, and 16, we made a bold choice. A new car and house renovations could wait - instead, we took a gap year together. One family, six backpacks, and a whole lot of learning ahead. Was it worth it? You bet. Was it hard? You bet (we had two teens and two tweens to manage!). But it remains one of the most transformative and rewarding experiences of our lives.

These experiences are what led to Travel 4 Good - a global community built on the belief that adventure can make a difference.

Whether it’s hiking, swimming or biking - every journey we take raises awareness and funds for homeless organisations in the places we explore. These are grassroots charities doing vital, often unseen work. We aim to travel with purpose, give back generously, and build a community of like-minded adventurers who care.

If you love being active, exploring with intention, and leaving a positive impact behind - you’ve found your people.

Adventure awaits - and so does your impact.
Join the
movement moment. Travel 4 Good.

No megaphones. No marching. Just a bunch of legends hiking, biking, swimming - and doing a little good while we’re at it.

We believe in shared laughs, sore legs, and raising money for people who need it.

Because changing the world doesn’t have to be loud - it just has to be real.

Travel 4 Good. Come for the adventure, stay for the stories.

Founder story timeline

  • In my 20s, I caught the travel bug - big time. I roamed far and wide: from the red dust of Central Australia to the fjords of Scandinavia, the pyramids of Egypt to the beaches of the Bahamas.

The US, Canada, UK, Europe, Türkiye, the Greek Islands, Singapore, Malaysia, Borneo, Indonesia - each destination added a new layer of perspective. Every border crossed fed my curiosity and deepened my belief in connecting with people, not just places. These were the years that shaped the way I travel today - with open eyes, open hands, and a backpack full of stories.

  • I married the love of my life and introduced Lisa to backpacking.

The day after our wedding, we set off on an 8-week honeymoon adventure through Southeast Asia - Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Thailand - the beginning of a lifelong love of purposeful travel.

  • Raising four daughters with a dream: to show them the world firsthand.

Together, we explored Southeast Asia - Vietnam, Myanmar (Burma), Cambodia, Thailand, Malaysia - choosing a different country most years for real experiences over screens and stories over schedules.

  • With our daughters aged 11, 12, 14, and 16, Lisa and I said no to the car upgrade/house reno and yes to adventure.

We take a whole year off to travel the world together - creating memories (and managing a few family meltdowns along the way!).

We headed off to Malaysia, India, Spain, Portugal, Morocco, Cyprus, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Borneo, and ended our year abroad in Indonesia.

  • In early 2020, before the world paused, we explored the vibrant coastline and lush highlands of Sri Lanka, backpacking for 5 weeks.

We rented and drove tuk tuks from Colombo down the southern coast, it was an adventure in itself.

  • We spent two incredible weeks backpacking through the stunning islands of the Philippines with our crew of eight! From turquoise lagoons to hidden waterfalls, every stop felt like a scene from a dream.

Then we headed on a milestone journey: a 10-day motorbike ride from Ho Chi Minh to Hoi An, capped off with Lisa’s 50th birthday celebration surrounded by family and our Vietnamese friends. An unforgettable way to celebrate adventure, love, and life.

  • Another big birthday, another big adventure. I turned 60 in Mexico, celebrating with family, friends, and fellow travellers. A beautiful reminder that adventure doesn’t have an age limit.

We backpacked around Mexico for 2 moths, starting central, heading down south and across to the west and then east coast.

  • After a lifetime of travelling with purpose, I officially launch Travel 4 Good - a community where people come together to hike, bike, swim, and raise funds for homeless organisations around the world.

  • I continue to lead meaningful group adventures around the globe, combining fitness, fun, and fundraising - and inviting others to do the same.

Every journey creates change, and every step forward supports someone in need.

Travel 4 Good brings together purpose-driven adventurers to explore the world while giving back.

We bring the local and global community together to create unforgettable hiking, biking, and swimming experiences that support homeless organisations in the places we journey through.

Every step, spin and stroke helps fund vital services - because the best adventures leave a legacy of good.

Our why

At Travel 4 Good, we believe the best adventures aren’t just about the views - they’re about the impact we leave behind and the experience we take with us.

Whether we’re hiking through highlands, swimming in oceans or biking along the coast, we move with purpose. We raise money and awareness for local homeless organisations - helping to support the people in the places we visit.

We’re not a movement. We’re a moment.
A moment to do good.
A moment to travel differently.
A moment to say this matters.

Our values

1. Adventure with heart
We seek challenge and story, but always with purpose. Every trip aims to do some good.

2. Give where you go
We back local homeless orgs wherever we land - caring for people is how we honour a place.

3. Keep it real
No egos, no filters. Just good humans doing their best to give back.

4. Moments over movements
It’s the little things - a shared laugh, a kind word, a donation that counts.

5. Community over crowds
It’s not about numbers - it’s about connection. Real relationships, real support, real impact.
